Johnson Goes for 100 Yards in Pace Football’s Loss at Merrimack

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Senior wideout Kyle Johnson (Elmont, NY/Elmont Memorial) led the Pace University football team with a season-high 100 receiving yards in Saturday's Northeast-10 Conference defeat at Merrimack College by a score of 52-6 at Martone-Mejail Field. The Setters fall to 1-7 on the year and 0-7 in NE-10 play, while Merrimack improves to 4-4 overall and 4-3 against the NE-10.

Johnson caught four passes for a season-high 100 yards, adding the Setters' lone touchdown on a 46-yard pass from freshman quarterback Dan Anerella (Old Bridge, NJ/Manalapan) that put Pace up, 6-0, in the first quarter. This was Johnson's second-career 100-yard game against Merrimack. Back on Sept. 28, 2013, Johnson caught 11 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown, also at Martone-Mejail Field.

Senior safety Jamir Gee (Paterson, NJ/Monroe College) continues to make an impact, picking up a pair of takeaways with an interception and a fumble recovery to go along with three tackles. He also returned five kickoffs for 100 yards, including a long return of 38 yards.

Freshman linebacker Kadeem Langhorne (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) led the Setters with eight tackles. Freshman cornerback Jalil Nichols (Philadelphia, PA/Mastery Charter) made three tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss. Sophomore lineman Jah'Sheem Martin (Freeport, NY/Freeport) had his third straight game with exactly five tackles and a sack. Sophomore defensive back Chukwuemeka Njoku-Obi (Newark, NJ/North Star Academy) registered his first-career interception in the fourth quarter.

The Setters will head to West Haven, Conn. next Saturday, Oct. 31, for their final road contest of the regular season. They will take on the University of New Haven in Northeast-10 action, with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
