WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The Pace University football team dropped a Northeast-10 Conference matchup to the University of New Haven Saturday afternoon at DellaCamera Stadium by a score of 34-3. The loss drops the Setters to 1-8 on the year and 0-8 against the NE-10, while the Chargers improve to 6-3 overall and 6-2 in conference play.
The Setters introduced a new wildcat offense in Saturday's matchup. Junior
Delaney Wallace (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) filled the quarterback role in the wildcat formation, attempting 20 passes on the afternoon. He also rushed 14 times for 48 yards.
Returning from injury, freshman
Nick Fountis (Bellport, NY/Bellport) accounted for the Setters' three points with a field goal in the final seconds of the first half.
Senior wideout
Kyle Johnson (Elmont, NY/Elmont Memorial) caught six passes for 40 yards in Saturday's contest, while freshman
Mohammad Masoud (Brooklyn, NY/Fort Hamilton) snagged three balls for 30 yards.
Sophomore defensive lineman
Jah'Sheem Martin (Freeport, NY/Freeport) turned in another strong effort on the front line, making six tackles, one for a loss, and recovering a fumble.Redshirt-sophomore linebacker
Matthew Corrie (South Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) led the Setters with 13 tackles, and also forced a fumble. Redshirt-sophomore
Micah Hunter (Riverside, CA/Santiago) broke up two passes in the game, and also made two tackles for loss.
Senior safety
Jamir Gee (Paterson, NJ/Monroe College) returned a late second-quarter kickoff 50 yards to help set up Fountis' field goal. Gee also got involved in the offense on Saturday, rushing four times for 25 yards.
The Setters will look to pick up a victory in their final home game of the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 7. Pace will celebrate Senior Day before they take on American International College in Northeast-10 action. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. at Pace Stadium.
