Scotman Rushes for 127, Two Scores in Pace Football’s Loss to Bentley

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Junior tailback Michael Scotman (White Plains, NY/White Plains) rumbled for 127 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the Pace University football team battled Bentley University in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at a rainy Pace Stadium Friday evening. The Setters fell to the Falcons by a final score of 15-13. The loss drops the Setters to 1-4 on the year and 0-4 against the NE-10, while Bentley improves to 2-3 overall and 2-2 in conference.

Scotman's first score came as time expired in the first quarter. He took the handoff from freshman Dan Anarella, and rolled to the left side of the field, diving for the pylon for a 23-yard touchdown. Freshman Matthew Ferrara (Cresskill, NJ/Cresskill)'s extra point was good, leaving the Setters down, 10-7 at the end of the first.

Both teams were quiet in the second quarter until the final minute. Pace was forced to punt with 23 seconds left on the clock, but the rainy conditions forced the snap to slip past the punter and into the end zone for a safety, giving the Falcons a 12-7 advantage going into the half.

The Setters forced a three-and-out to open the second half. They then went on the longest drive of the game, a 15-play, 61-yard set that took 6:11 off the clock, capped off by Scotman's second score of the game on a four-yard rush. The Setters were unable to convert a two-point conversion, but took a 13-12 lead early in the third quarter.

The fourth quarter began with Bentley on the Pace 17-yard line. The Setters' defense was able to hold, but Michael Baron's field goal was good from 36 yard to put the Falcons up for good, 15-13.

Redshirt sophomore linebacker Matthew Corrie (South Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) netted a season-high 16 tackles Friday evening. Senior safety Jamir Gee (Paterson, NJ/Monroe College), who has twice been recognized for his excellence on special teams, turned in a stellar defensive effort with two sacks, two tackles for loss and seven tackles. Redshirt sophomore Micah Hunter (Riverside, CA/Santiago) and junior Cody Richardson (Bowie, MD/Walton) each snagged an interception in Friday's contest.

The Setters get back on the road next week, as they travel to New Haven, Conn. to take on Southern Connecticut State University in an NE-10 matchup on Saturday, Oct. 10. The last time the Setters and Owls faced off, the final game of the 2014 season, Pace took home a 10-7 victory. Kickoff next Saturday is slated for 12 p.m.
