MANCHESTER, NH – The Pace women's basketball came up short to the Saint Anselm Hawks 71-68 in Northeast-10 Conference action.
The Setters fall to 8-9 overall and 3-7 in the NE-10, while the Hawks improve to 5-11 and 3-8 in conference play.
The Hawks took the lead early as they build a double digit lead midway through the opening half. The Setters cut it down to five points following trifecta by
Gabriella Rubin and
Jacklyn Oskam, Saint Anselm pushed their lead back to double figures but Pace rallied late as a Rubin triple cut the score to 40-32 at halftime.
Pace rallied in the second half as they used a 17-8 run from the start to pull ahead by one.
Yuni Sher started the run with five points, while
Margo Hackett netted seven in the run, including a lay-up at the 12:01 mark to give the Setters their first lead of the game. The Hawks answered as they retook the lead and stretched it to five points with 7:14 left in the game.
The Setters answered with an 8-0 burst to go back in front by one.
Christina Rubin connected on a triple, while Oskam connected on a free throw and added a baseline jumper to put Pace up 58-57 with 5:33 left. Hackett capped the run with two free throws to put the Setters up 60-57 with 4:59 left in the game. The teams traded lead in the final four minutes with Sher giving Pace a one point lead with 17 seconds left. Saint Anselm took back the lead at the foul line in the finals seconds.
For Pace, Sher led the way with a career-high 20 points along with five rebounds.
Gabriella Rubin tallied 19 points and six rebounds, while Hackett finished with 11 points and four caroms.
Christina Rubin added 10 points and five assists.
The Setters travel to Franklin Pierce on Wednesday for an NE-10 match-up against the Ravens at 5:30 pm.
