Mickell Scores 22 in Loss Against Saint Anselm

Box Score MANCHESTER, NH – The Pace University Men's Basketball squad was defeated on the road by the Saint Anselm Hawks on Saturday, 95-70. With the loss, the Setters fall to 5-12, 1-8 NE-10 while the Hawks advance to 10-5, 7-4 NE-10.

After Saint Anselm knocked down the first basket of the game, junior Shelton Mickell and freshman Mike Demello added back-to-back buckets on the next two Setter possessions that pushed the score to 5-4. With Pace trailing by six points with 14:45 remaining in the half, junior Kyle Pearson drilled a shot from distance to cut the deficit to just three. Later, with 6:54 to go in the opening period and the Setters still trailing, Mickell and freshman Evan Gordinier each added triples that were 1:23 apart to cut the deficit to eight points. After the Hawks' offense got hot late in the half, Pace entered the locker room trailing by double digits.

The Hawks scored the first eight points of the second half until Demello and freshman Jared Pearson added consecutive shots to halt the Saint Anselm rally. With the Setters still down at the 11:56 mark, Jaylen Mann splashed a three-pointer and hit a layup on the next Pace possession to help chip away at the lead. The Setters trailed at the 10:37 mark when Pearson hit a three-pointer and then scored on a tip-in to help pull Pace back. The Setters ended the game on a 6-0 run, all on Mickell layups, but it wasn't enough as Pace fell to the Hawks, 95-70.

Mickell led the Setters with 22 points, adding seven rebounds and an assist. K. Pearson chipped in 20 points with six rebounds while Demello and Gordinier added six points apiece.

Pace returns to the court on Wednesday, January 21st when they travel to Rindge, N.H. to take on Franklin Pierce.
