PLEASANTVILLE, NY –
Alyssa Marchino tallied team-highs with 28 digs and 13 kills as the Pace University volleyball team topped the Holy Family Tigers 3-1 in a non-conference match on Saturday afternoon.
The Setters (3-6, 0-0, NE-10) rushed out to a 12-4 lead in the first set on the strength of two kills by Marchino as well as points from
Haley Kain,
Macey Danker and
Brittani Muller. The Tigers would rally to pull to within 14-10, but Pace answered the challenge, claiming the set 25-20.
After dropping the second set 25-16, the Setters battled back from early deficits in the third and fourth. In the third, Pace fell behind 6-1 before rallying to tie the game at 11-11 before earning a hard-fought 25-23 victory. During the set,
Sydney Lecker played a key role, earning four kills and a block. In the fourth, Holy Family jumped out in front 6-2 before the Setters climbed back into it, eventually winning the set 25-19.
For the match,
Rebecca Italiano tallied 27 digs to go alongside a pair of assists and a kill. Leading the way for the Setters in assists was junior
Sara Anastasi who totaled 18. She also added three digs and two kills.
The Setters return to action on Tuesday when they open up their NE-10 slate at home against Southern Connecticut. The match is slated for 7:00 pm.
