WALTHAM, MA- The Pace University baseball team plated two runs in the fifth inning, but the Bentley Falcons scored a pair in the bottom of the sixth as the Falcons upended the Setters 3-2 in a Northeast-10 Conference contest.
Pace is now 5-12 on the season and 1-7 in the NE-10 while the Falcons are 12-8 with an 8-1 conference mark.
After Bentley tallied the first run of the game in the bottom of the second, the Setters responded in the fifth. With one out, Frank Mayo (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) walked. Alexander Rough (Stamford, CT/Westhill) (Stamford, CT/Westhill) followed with a double to plate Mayo and tie the game at 1-1. David Pepe (Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) (Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) delivered an infield single. On the play at first, the throw sailed wide allowing Rough to move to third where he stood when Brett Bittiger (Saylorsburg, PA/Pius X) (Saylorsburg, PA/Pius X High School) lifted a sac fly to right, scoring the rubber and giving Pace a 2-1 lead.
The lead would last until the bottom of the sixth when with the bases loaded, Dante Padovani was hit by a pitch and Bryan Rocha walked to force in a pair of runs, reclaiming the lead for Bentley.
Josh Garran (Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley Regional) pitched well in relief for Pace, striking out four during 2.2 scoreless innings.
The Setters return to action tomorrow with a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at Stonehill beginning at noon.
