PLESANTVILLE, NY- Freshman Domenick Luongo (Darien, CT/Cardinal Spellman) (Darien, CT/Cardinal Spellman) went 3-for-6 with one run scored, as the Setters fell to the Adelphi University Panthers 4-3 in 13 innings.
The Setters fall to 12-22, and 5-10 in the Northeast 10 Southwest, while the Panthers improve to 20-19 overall and 8-7 in NE-10 Southwest.
The Setters got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the second, as Luongo and junior Brett Bittiger (Saylorsburg, PA/Pius X) (Saylorsburg, PA/Pius X/FDU) both singled to get on. After senior Jon Kovel (Schenectady, NY/Scotia Glenville) (Schenechtady, NY/Scotia Glenville) walked to load the bases, sophomore Michael Viegas (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) walked to score Luongo and take a 1-0 lead. The bases remained loaded as junior Tom Midolo (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) was hit by a pitch to score Bittiger for a 2-0 advantage.
The Panthers cut into the Setters lead at 2-1 on single to score the runner from second. Pace would extend to a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth, as senior James Pjura (Shelton, CT/Shelton) (Shelton, CT/Shelton) reached on error by the third baseman, and then advanced to second on the throw. Fellow classmate Chris Gili (Manorville, NY/Eastport-South Manor) (Manorville, NY/Eastport-South Manor/Austin Peay) singled to right field to score Pjura.
Adelphi rallied in the later innings on an error in the seventh to cut it down to 3-2. The Panthers tied the game in the ninth on a fielder choice and a walk, while allowed Adelphi to score on base hit to right and force the game into extra innings.
The game remained tied until the 13th as the Panthers pushed across go ahead run to pick up the win.
For Pace, freshman John Kukura (New City, NY/Clarkstown South) (New City, NY/Clarkstown South) went 2-for-6, while Bittiger went 1-for-4 with one run scored. Senior Jonathan Silva (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) took the loss for the Setters to fall to 1-4 on the season and senior Matt Abramowitz picked up the win for the Panthers.
The Setters return to action on Wednesday, April 30 as the host the Caldwell College Cougars in a non-conference tilt beginning at 3:30.
