SYRACUSE, NY – Jonathan Chudy (Goshen, NY/Goshen) (Goshen, NY/Goshen) tossed 7.1 innings, allowing one run on four hits as the Pace University baseball team split a Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division doubleheader with Le Moyne, winning game two by a 3-1 score. The Dolphins won game one 8-2.
Pace is now 8-15 and has a 3-10 record in the NE-10, including a 2-4 mark in divisional play. Le Moyne is 10-16 overall, 4-3 in conference, and 1-2 within the division.
In game two, the Setters got on the board early as in the second, James Pjura (Shelton, CT/Shelton) (Shelton, CT/Shelton) singled to lead off the frame. Tom Midolo (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) came up next and cracked a two-run homer to left, tallying the initial runs of the contest.
Pace extended the lead in the fourth as Chris Gili (Manorville, NY/Eastport-South Manor) (Manorville, NY/Eastport-South Manor) reached on an error and moved to second on a ground out. He would move to third and then subsequently score on wild pitches during the next two at-bats to put the Setters up 3-0.
The rest of the game belonged to Chudy (1-3), who only ran into trouble in the sixth when he allowed two hits and his only run of the game. Chudy recovered to toss a scoreless seventh and get the first out of the eighth before Josh Garran (Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley Regional) (Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley Regional) was summoned from the bullpen. Garran tossed the final 1.2 innings, striking out three to earn his first save of the year.
In game one, Le Moyne took advantage of three Setters errors to plate three unearned runs, leading to an 8-2 victory. Offensively in the contest for Pace, Andrew Coffey (Greenwich, CT/Old Avon Farms) and Midolo had two hits apiece.
The Setters and Dolphins wrap up the series tomorrow at noon in Syracuse.
