CHESTER, N.Y.- Jeane Drury (Flanders, NJ/Morris Catholic High School) (Flanders, NJ/Morris Catholic) went 3-for-7 with a triple as the Setters split a Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division doubleheader against the Saint Rose Golden Knights. Pace moves to 4-13 overall and 1-2 in the division, while Saint Rose stands at 4-7 and 1-1 in division play.
Pitching dominated the opener as both starters held the game scoreless through seven innings. Caitlin McCann (San Mateo, CA/Notre Dame) (San Mateo, CA/Notre Dame) struck out 10 batters over the first seven innings, allowing two hits. In the eighth, McCann (1-7) gave up her third hit of the game, a solo homerun to end the game.
In the nightcap, the Setters got on the board in the second as Haley Hernandez (West Hills, CA/El Camino Real) (West Hills, CA/El Camino Real) singled and eventually scored on a Kimberly Duffy (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon) (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon) single.
In the third, Shelby Yung (Upland, CA/Upland) (Upland, CA/Upland) and Drury reached on an error to put runners at second and third. Hernandez drove in both runners with a single. Pace tacked on a run in the fifth as Drury reached on a two base error and came around to score on a Natalie Gellos (Seattle, WA/Holy Names Academy) (Seattle, WA/Holy Names Academy) single.
On the mound, Kaitlynn Nelson (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) tossed a complete game shutout, scattering five hits and striking out three to improve to 3-5 on the season.
The Setters travel to Adelphi for an NE-10 Southwest Division doubleheader on Tuesday, April 1 at 3:00 pm.
