GARDEN CITY, NY- Caitlin McCann (San Mateo, CA/Notre Dame) (San Mateo, CA/Notre Dame) tossed a complete game five hit shutout to lead the Setters to a 2-0 game one win against Adelphi but the Panthers took the nightcap 10-1 in five innings.
The Setters move to 5-14 overall and 2-3 in the Northeast-10 Southwest Division, while the Panthers stand at 11-9 and 2-1 in division play.
In the opener, McCann (2-7) dominated the opener as the scattered five hits, striking out one, in a complete game effort. The Setters got their runs in the third as Lana Buchbinder (San Francisco, CA/George Washington) (San Francisco, CA/George Washington) and Shelby Yung (Upland, CA/Upland) (Upland, CA/Upland) led off with singles. Both moved to second and third on a ground out and two batters later, Haley Hernandez (West Hills, CA/El Camino Real) (West Hills, CA/El Camino Real) came through with a two run single to score both runners.
In the nightcap, the Setters got on the board in the opening inning as Yung drew a leadoff walk and eventually came around to score on a Nikole Larm (Brewster, NY/Brewster) (Brewster, NY/Brewster) RBI single. The Panthers answered with two in their half of the first and added three in the third and five in the fifth.
On the mound, Kaitlynn Nelson (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) tossed two innings, allowing four runs on five hits and struck out one to fall to 3-6 on the season. Kira Knight (Benicia, CA/Benicia) came on for the final two innings, allowing six runs on nine hits, striking out one.
The Setters are back in action on Wednesday, April 2 as Pace hosts the New Haven Chargers in an NE-10 Southwest Division doubleheader starting at 3 pm on the Briarcliff campus.
