Baseball Falls to Franklin Pierce

PLEASANTVILLE, NY– The Setters fell to the Franklin Pierce Ravens 8-3 in game one and 10-1 in the nightcap in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader. Pace falls to 3-9 overall and 0-4 in the NE-10, while Franklin Pierce improves to 16-8 and 3-1 in conference play.

In the opener, the Ravens took an early lead with two runs in the third and in the fourth. The Setters got a run back in the fourth as James Pjura (Shelton, CT/Shelton) (Shelton, CT/Shelton) led off with a double and eventually came around to score on a wild pitch.

Franklin Pierce added four runs in the seventh but the Setters rallied with a pair of runs in the ninth. Tom Midolo (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) was hit by a pitch to start the inning and advanced to second in a wild pitch. Danny Wynne (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ/Hasbrouck Heights) (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ/Hasbrouck Heights) singled to move Midolo to third. Midolo scored on a wild pitch and Wynne came around to score two batters later as David Pepe (Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) (Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) singled him home.

For the Setters, Pepe went 3-for-4 with a stolen base in the opener. Brian Sundberg (Westbury, NY/WT Clarke) (Westbury, NY/WT Clarke) fell to 1-1 on the season, as he tossed five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and struck out one. Tim Deegan (Levittown, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) (Levittown, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) came on for the final four innings, allowing four unearned runs on four hits, while striking out one.

In the nightcap, Franklin Pierce plated three runs in the opening inning and added seven in the third. Pace got their lone run in the fifth as Jon Kovel (Schenectady, NY/Scotia Glenville) (Schenectady, NY/Scotia Glenville) led off with a walk and advanced two bases on a wild pitch. Pepe again came up with a key hit as he singled home Kovel.

For Pace, Ian Wukitsch (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) went 2-for-2 in the game as the Setters were limited to four hits. Dylan Mouzakes (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills) fell to 0-1 on the season, as he tossed 2+ innings, allowing seven runs (six earned) on eight hits and struck out one.

The Setters return to action on Wednesday, March 26 as they will travel to West Haven, CT for an NE-10 Southwest Division game against New Haven at 3 pm.
