Baseball Comes Up Short To Wilmington

WILMINGTON, DE-  The Setters fell to the Wilmington Wildcats 5-3 in non-conference action. Pace falls to 3-5 on the season, while Wilmington improves to 10-2-1.

The Setters jumped out to an early lead as Jon Kovel (Schenectady, NY/Scotia Glenville) (Schenectady, NY/Scotia Glenville) blasted a solo homerun in the third inning. Pace added to their lead in the fourth as Chris Gili (Manorville, NY/Eastport-South Manor) (Manorville, NY/Eastport-South Manor) drew a one out walk. Gili stole second and scored on a single by Ian Wukitsch (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) for a 2-0 Pace lead.

The Wildcats rallied in the fifth as they scored five runs to take a 5-2 lead. The Setters answered in the ninth as James Pjura (Shelton, CT/Shelton) (Shelton, CT/Shelton) connected on a solo homerun to cut the score to 5-3. Wukitsch and Tom Midolo (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) followed with singles with one out but the Setters fell short.

On the hill, Jonathan Chudy (Goshen, NY/Goshen) (Goshen, NY/Goshen) got the start, going 4 2/3 innings, allowing five runs on three hits and striking out five as he falls to 0-2 on the season. Tim Deegan (Levittown, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) (Levittown, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) went 1 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing one hit, while Josh Grant (Corning, NY/Corning Painted Post West) (Corning, NY/Corning Painted Post West) retired all three batters he faced in the seventh. Josh Garran (Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley Regional) also retired all three batters he faced in the eighth, striking out two.  

The Setters return home this weekend as they will host the Southern New Hampshire Penmen on Saturday, March 22 for a twin bill starting at noon at Finnerty Field.
