ROHNERT PARK, CA- The Setters dropped a twin bill to the Sonoma State Seawolves 4-0 in the opener and 10-1 in six innings in the nightcap. Pace falls to 1-7 overall, while Sonoma State improves to 19-11 on the season.
Pace was limited to five hits in the opener with freshman Alicia Marino (Mahopac, NY/Pleasantville) (Mahopac, NY/Pleasantville) going 2-for-3 with a double. On the mound, Caitlin McCann (San Mateo, CA/Notre Dame) (San Mateo, CA/Notre Dame) went three innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, while striking out one to fall to 1-3 on the season. Kira Knight (Benicia, CA/Benicia) tossed three scoreless innings and did not give up a hit.
In the nightcap, Sonoma State jumped out to a 4-0 lead with two runs in the first and two in the fifth. Pace got on the board in the sixth as Marino doubled with one out. Natalie Gellos (Seattle, WA/Holy Names Academy) (Seattle, WA/Holy Names Academy) followed with a single to put runners at first and third. Samantha Garcia (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Rancho Cucamonga) (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Rancho Cucamonga) singled to drive in Marino.
On the mound, Kaitlynn Nelson (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) (Ojai, CA/Nordhoff) tossed a five innings, allowing four runs on six hits, while striking out four to fall to 0-4 on the season. Freshman Shelby Yung (Upland, CA/Upland) went 2-for-3 in game two with a stolen base.
The Setters wrap up their West Coast trip as they travel to Cal State Monterey Bay on Thursday, March 20 at 3 pm EDT.
