YAPHANK, NY – The Pace University baseball team fell to the Dominican Chargers 8-3 in non-conference action. The Setters fall to 1-3 on the season, while the Chargers improve to 4-4.
The Setters struck first in the opening inning as Michael Viegas (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) and Chris Gili (Manorville, NY/Eastport-South Manor) (Manorville, NY/Eastport-South Manor) singled to put runners at first and third with one out. James Pjura (Shelton, CT/Shelton) (Shelton, CT/Shelton) drove in the first run of the game with a double to center. Ian Wukitsch (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) followed with an RBI groundout to put the Setters in front 2-0 after one inning.
Dominican rallied in the middle innings with two runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth for a 6-2 lead. The Setters got one back in the fifth as John Kukura (New City, NY/Clarkstown South) (New City, NY/Clarkstown South) led off with a single and Danny Wynn (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ/Hasbrouck Heights) drew a walk. Brett Bittinger (Saylorsburg, PA/Pius X) loaded the bases with an infield single. Viegas drew a walk for Pace's third run of the game but Setters couldn't capitalize with additional runs in the frame.
Starter Dylan Mouzakes (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills) went the first four innings, allowing two runs on two hits, while striking out two.
The Setters head south as they will play Dowling on Friday, March 14 at 6 pm at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, NC.
