Dodge Career-Day Leads Women's Basketball to Win Over Southern Connecticut

NEW HAVEN, CT- Kirsten Dodge (Fabius, NY/Fabius-Pompey) (Fabius, NY/Fabius-Pompey) set new career-highs with 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Setters to their second win in their last three games as they topped the Southern Connecticut State Owls 70-60 in Northeast-10 Conference action.

The Owls scored the first six points of the game in the first three minutes of play. Pace rallied behind three Shanice Allen (Riverhead, NY/Riverhead) (Riverhead, NY/Riverhead) triples as the Setters pulled ahead 23-19 with 6:56 left in the half. Southern Connecticut sliced the score down to a point at 29-28 but Pace answered with the final six points as Dodge scored four as the Setters led at the break 35-28.

The Setters extended their half time advantage early in the second half as Yuni Sher (Poughkeepsie, NY/Long Island Lutheran) (Poughkeepsie, NY/Long Island Lutheran) converted a three-point play to put Pace up 40-30 with 17:47 left in the game. The Owls rallied back with a 19-4 run to take a 49-46 lead with 10:55 left in the game.

Allen answered with a three-ball to tie the game at 49 and Dodge put the Setters up for good with a lay-up at the 9:59 mark. Pace extended to a four point lead but the Owls sliced it back to one point at 53-52 with 8:01 remaining in the game. From there the Setters took over as they used an 17-4 run over the next seven and a half minutes to push their lead into double figures at 70-56 with under a minute left in the contest. Pace went 6-for-6 at the line in the final minute of play with Margo Hackett (Pawling, NY/Pawling) (Pawling, NY/Pawling) hit all four of her attempts as the Setters iced the win over the Owls.

For the Setters, Dodge's double-double led the way as she shot 9-for-16 from the field. Allen drained 4-for-6 from downtown as she finished with 13 points and three assists. Shanice Maynard (Camden, NJ/Woodrow Wilson / Coppin State) (Camden, NJ/Woodrow Wilson) added 10 points, three boards and four assists, while Loren Kaiser (Stewartsville, NJ/Phillpsburg) tallied 10 points and three rebounds. Sher reached double-figures in rebounds with 10.

The Setters travel to Garden City, NY for an NE-10 game against the Adelphi Panthers on Saturday, February 22 at 3:30 pm.
