RINDGE, NH – The Pace University Volleyball squad fell to Northeast-10 Conference rival Franklin Pierce on Saturday, 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-17). The Setters now fall to 4-17, 1-8 in conference action while Franklin Pierce now sits at 14-9, 7-4 in the NE-10.
The Setters jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the first set of the contest, but allowed Franklin Pierce to climb back in, surrendering five of the next six points. Pace exploded for a late surge in the set thanks to a pair of kills each by junior
Alyssa Marchino and freshman
Haley Kain to take a 23-17 lead. However Franklin Pierce was able to rally and take the final eight points of the contest to claim the set, 25-23.
In the second, Pace rallied from a 21-16 deficit, claiming six of the next seven points to force the action to 22-22. The Setters failed to complete the comeback as Franklin Pierce stole the next three points to win the set, 25-22.
In the decisive third set, Franklin Pierce jumped out to an early 9-2 lead and the Setters were never able to recover as they eventually dropped the set, 25-17, and eventually the match.
Leading the way for Pace was junior
Macey Danker who tallied four kills, eight digs, four blocks, and a trio of aces. Marchino added a team-high five kills and eight digs. Junior
Brittani Muller chipped six total blocks in addition to a pair of kills. Sophomore
Samantha Marquez led the team with 13 digs while junior
Sara Anastasia recorded a team-best nine assists.
The Setters return to action next week when they kick off a three game home stand that begins with Queens College on Tuesday, October 28
th.
