Box Score PLEASANTVILLE, NY – The Pace University volleyball team rallied from a 2-1 deficit as the Setters won a thrilling contest against the Saint Michael's Purple Knights in a five-set match behind scores of 22-25, 25-15, 28-30, 26-24, and 15-13.
For the contest,
Sydney Lecker led Pace (4-14, 1-5 NE-10) with 13 kills to go along with 11 digs.
Macey Danker had 11 kills and 22 digs while
Haley Kain amassed 11 kills and 10 digs.
Alyssa Marchino also had a double-double with 10 kills and 17 digs to go along with six blocks. Brittany Muller contributed 10 kills and seven blocks while Collette Clarke had nine kills and seven blocks.
Trailing 2-1 after three sets, Pace and Purple Knights battled down the stretch in the fourth with neither team ever holding more than a four point lead. Behind 23-19, the Setters rose to the occasion, reeling off five straight points to go up 24-23. After Saint Michael's tied things at 24 apiece, Pace finished things on kills by Clarke and Marchino to win 26-24. Also key in the fourth set was Danker who contributed five kills and four digs.
In the fifth, the Setters fell behind early. Down 10-4, Pace rallied again, ripping off eight of the next nine points to take a 12-11 lead. Tied at 13-13, the Setters ended the match on kills by Danker and Lecker to claim the victory.
After Saint Michael's (5-9, 0-7 NE-10) won a tight first set 25-22, Pace came through with a big second set, winning 25-15 to even the match.
In the third, the Setters battled back from set point at 22-24 to take a 25-24 advantage. Pace and the Purple Knights would play back and forth until the set was deadlocked at 28-28 before Saint Michael's took the final two points to claim the set 30-28.
Pace returns to action on Tuesday when they host New Haven at home. The match is slated for 7:00 pm.
