Johnson Posts Career-High Receiving Yards as Football Falls to Merrimack

NORTH ANDOVER, MA- Pace sophomore wide receiver Kyle Johnson (Elmont, NY/Elmont Memorial) (Elmont, NY/Elmont Memorial) hauled in a career-high 11 receptions for 178 yards and a touchdown as the Setters fell to the Warriors of Merrimack College 66-14 in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon. Pace falls to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in the NE-10, while the Warriors improve to 2-2 and 1-2 in NE-10 play.

The Warriors jumped out to a 28-0 lead at halftime behind four touchdown passes by Merrimack quarterback Joe Clancy. Merrimack added to their lead in the second half as Clancy threw three more touchdowns passes, while Armond Mcrae scored twice on the ground for the Warriors. Shane Ferguson also caught three touchdown passes from Clancy.

The Setters got on the board in the second half as quarterback Antwan Washington (Belle Glade, FL/Glades Central) (Belle Glade, FL/Glades Central) connected with Johnson on a 33-yard touchdown strike with 5:43 left in the third quarter. Washington tossed his second touchdown late in the game as he hit Cameron Davis (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL/Providence) (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL/Providence) for a 17-yard scoring connection with 1:35 to play in the fourth quarter.

For Pace, Washington passed for a career-high 395 yards in the air on 31-for-52 passing and two touchdowns. The Setters had two players total over 100-receiving yards as Johnson led Pace with his career day. Davis also eclipsed the century mark as he finished with 10 catches for 133 yards and a fourth quarter touchdown. On defense, Jimmy Myers (West Orange, NJ/West Orange) (West Orange, NJ/West Orange) led Pace with seven tackles, while Joe Camilleri (Saddle Brook, NJ/Saddle Brook) (Saddle Brook, NJ/Saddle Brook) and Tyler Owens (Salem, NJ/Salem) each totaled six tackles. Owens recorded one sack on the day for the Setters.  

The Setters return to action on Friday, October 4 as Pace travels to New Haven, CT to take on the Owls of Southern Connecticut State University in an NE-10 match-up at 7 pm.
