RINDGE, N.H.- The Setters split a twin bill against the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Ravens took the opener 4-3 but the Setters answered in the nightcap, taking game two 8-3. Pace moves 10-9 on the season and 5-8 in the NE-10, while Franklin Pierce is now 3-12 overall and 1-7 in conference play.
In the opener, Franklin Pierce struck first with a pair of runs in the opening inning. The Setters got one back in the second on a Rachael McMahon (Corona, CA/Esperanza) (Corona, CA/Esperanza) RBI single. The Ravens got the run back in their half of the third to take a 3-1 lead.
Pace pulled even in the fourth as Kimberly Duffy (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon) (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon) hit a two-run homerun to tie the score at three. Franklin Pierce rallied in the fifth as they pushed across the go-ahead run to take the opener 4-3.
Duffy went 2-for-3 in the game for the Setters. Kelly Fisher (Castle Rock, CO/Douglas County) (Castle Rock, CO/Douglas County) tossed a complete game, allowing four runs on eight hits and struck out four to fall to 4-3 on the season.
In the nightcap, it was the Setters that jumped out to an early lead as they scored three runs in the third keyed by a two-run double by Samantha Garcia (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Rancho Cucamonga) (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Rancho Cucamonga). In the fourth, Natalie Gellos (Seattle, WA/Holy Names Academy) (Seattle, WA/Holy Names Academy) staked the Setters to a 4-0 lead with a solo homerun. The Ravens got a run back in the fourth but the Setters broke the game open in the fifth with four runs. Garcia drove in her third run of the game with a base hit, while Duffy bunted for a base hit and the second run of the inning. Jeane Drury (Flanders, NJ/Morris Catholic High School) (Flanders, NJ/Morris Catholic) capped the scoring in the inning with a run scoring single.
Gellos and Garcia both went 2-for-4 in the nightcap with Garcia driving in three and scoring twice. On the mound, Chelsea Shea (Babylon, NY/West Babylon) improved to 5-4 on the season as she tossed a complete game, allowing three runs on six hits and struck out seven.
The Setters are back in action on Sunday, April 7 as they travel to Manchester, NH for an NE-10 doubleheader against Southern New Hampshire at 12 pm.
