WORCESTER, Mass.- The Pace Baseball team saw their win streak end as they fell to the Greyhounds of Assumption College 20-9 in Northeast-10 Southwest Division play. The Setters fall to 24-10 on the season and 9-2 in the division, while the Greyhounds improve to 12-22 and 7-3 in division play.
The Greyhounds jumped out to an early lead with eight runs in the opening inning. The Setters answered in the top of the second with five runs as they capitalized on three Assumption errors in the inning to plate five runs. Michael Viegas (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) drove in two runs with a single, while Jon Kovel (Schenectady, NY/Scotia Glenville) (Schenectady, NY/Scotia Glenville) drove in another run with a sacrifice fly.
The Greyhounds got a run back in their half of the second but Pace added single runs in the third and fourth. Ian Wukitsch (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) drove in a run with single in the third, while James Pjura (Shelton, CT/Shelton) (Shelton, CT/Shelton) connected on a solo homerun in the fourth. Assumption added runs in the later innings with five in the sixth and six more in the seventh. The Setters scored their final two runs in the seventh as Bobby Horn (Stamford, CT/Westhill) (Stamford, CT/Westhill) had an RBI double and Chris Gili (Manorville, NY/Eastport-South Manor) (Manorville, NY/Eastport-South Manor) drove in a run with a single.
For Pace, Joe Solomeno (Holbrook , NY/Sachem East) (Holbrook, NY/Sachem East) went 3-for-3 in the game with two runs scored, while Horn was 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Pjura scored three runs in the game and went 2-for-4. Neil Pezzullo (Harwich, MA/Harwich) started, going 1 1/3 innings, allowing nine runs on 10 hits to fall to 4-3 on the season.
The Setters and the Greyhounds conclude the series on Sunday, April 21 with a doubleheader starting at 12 pm at Rocheleau Field in Worcester, MA.
