PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- Jonathan Chudy (Goshen, NY/Goshen) (Goshen, NY/Goshen) took a no-hitter into the eighth inning as he led the Pace baseball team to its eighth straight win with a 3-0 shutout victory over the Adelphi University Panthers. The Setters advance to 24-9 overall, 14-4 in the Northeast-10 Conference and 9-1 in the Southwest Division where they maintain first place. The Panthers drop to 17-16-1 overall, 8-10 in the NE-10 and 6-4 in division play.
Chudy (3-1) struck out ten batters and allowed just two hits in 7 2/3 innings pitched for the Setters. Tim Deegan (Levittown, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) (Levittown, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) came on in relief for his second save of the year as he allowed one hit and struck out one in 1 1/3 innings.
Brandon Martineson (Prospect, KY/Warwick (NY)) (Prospect, KY/Warwick NY) led on the offensive side as he went 2-for-4 at the plate, tallied two runs and an RBI. Joe Solomeno (Holbrook , NY/Sachem East) (Holbrook , NY/Sachem East) went 1-for-3 on the day, contributed the other two RBI's for the Setters.
Pace got the bats going in the second inning as James Pjura (Shelton, CT/Shelton) (Shelton, CT/Shelton) started it off with a double to right center. Martineson followed up with a double to bring Pjura home and then advanced to third as Ian Wukitsch (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) grounded out to first. Solomeno stepped up to the plate with a sacrifice fly that allowed Martineson to cross the plate for the Setters to go up 2-0.
Scoring was quiet for both sides throughout, until the Setters took their turn in the bottom of the sixth. Martineson and Wukitsch singled, followed by a single from Solomeno that brought Martineson home for the third and final run of the game.
Jonathan Mulford struck out two and saw all three runs on eight hits through seven innings for the Panthers. Dillon McNamara came in to relieve where he saw one hit and struck out two in an inning. John Campbell, Anthony Zarella and Kevin Hutzel each tallied a hit for the Panthers.
The Setters will travel to Provident Bank Park to take on non-conference Dominican College Thursday, April 18 at 3 pm.
