Pleasantville, N.Y.- The Setters took the third game of a three-game weekend sweep against the Yellow Jackets of American International College (AIC), 16-4 for another divisional victory. The Setters now advance to 23-9 overall, 13-4 in the Northeast-10 Conference and 8-1 in the Southwest Division while the Yellow Jackets drop to 13-14 overall and 5-10 in the NE-10.
Charlie Galasso (West Harrison, NY/Harrison) (West Harrison, NY / Harrison) saw great success at the plate as he went 4-for-5, scored two runs and tallied five RBI's for the Setters. Michael Viegas (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) (Staten Island, NY / Monsignor Farrell) went 3-for-5, scored twice and contributed three RBI's while Bobby Horn (Stamford, CT/Westhill) (Stamford, CT / Westhill) went 3-for-4 at the plate, added three runs and two RBI's.
Robert Rizzitelli (Monroe, CT/Masuk) (Monroe, CT / Masuk) struck out five in three innings as he got the start on the mound for the Setters. Dylan Mouzakes (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills) (Dix Hills, NY / Half Hollow Hills) (4-0) came in to relieve for the eventual win as he struck out three in three innings. Josh Grant (Corning, NY/Corning Painted Post West) (Corning, NY / Corning Painted Post West), Mike Jeannetti (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) (Levittown, NY / Island Trees) and Mike Sweeney (Wayne, NJ/DePaul Catholic) (Wayne, NJ / DePaul Catholic) also saw time at the mound and helped solidify the win for the Setters.
The first two innings were the quiet before the storm as Pace opened the scoring in the third. Bobby Horn (Stamford, CT/Westhill) singled and advanced to third on a double by Chris Gili (Manorville, NY/Eastport-South Manor) (Manorville, NY / Eastport-South Manor). Horn was able to capitalize on a Yellow Jacket error that put the Setters on the board and Viegas at first. Gili and Viegas got to second and third on a passed ball and aggressive base-running. Galasso singled to centerfield to bring both base runners home put the Setters one the board, 3-0.
The Yellow Jackets saw three-up, three-down when they came to the plate in the fourth before the Tom Midolo (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) (Brooklyn, NY / Xaverian) executed a RBI sac bunt to put another run on the board for the Setters.
Galasso singled and stole second to start the fifth inning and eventually scored on an Ian Wukitsch (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) (Morristown, NJ / Morristown) single and Yellow Jackets throwing error. Wukitsch advanced to third on a wild pitch and then stole home to put the Setters up 6-0.
AIC managed to get on the board in the sixth as they connected on two doubles and capitalized on two errors. Dave Clark was attributed with an RBI, and scored himself alongside teammate Lucas Vallas to put three on the board and make it 6-3.
The storm clouds really rolled over the Yellow Jackets in the bottom of the inning as the Setters saw ten runs on 11 hits. Jon Kovel (Schenectady, NY/Scotia Glenville) (Schenectady, NY / Scotia Glenville) and Horn singled to start followed by Gili reaching on an error and advancing Kovel home. Viegas pulled a successful bunt single to advance all base runners before Galasso singled to right to bring Gili and Horn home. James Pjura (Shelton, CT/Shelton) (Shelton, CT / Shelton) hit a pop fly but Brandon Martineson (Prospect, KY / Warwick NY) then singled to allow Viegas to cross the plate and Galasso to reach third. Wukitsch doubled to center to bring Galasso home and put Martineson in scoring position. Midolo brought Martineson home on a single to the shortstop and advance Wukitsch to third. Kovel hit a pop fly to the short stop but Horn then singled to bring Wukitsch in for another run followed by a Gili single to left to load the bases. On the second visit to the plate in the inning, Viegas singled to left-center to bring Midolo and Horn home for two RBI's. Galasso then singled to left to bring Gili home for the last run and before the last out of the inning.
The Yellow Jackets managed to respond with a run in the seventh inning but were unable to match the Setters offensive intensity. Ryan Acevedo received the loss for the Jackets as he saw three runs on four hits on 2.1 innings-pitched while Jeff Kraucunas finished off the third inning with a walk and a strike out. Derek Azzopardi saw eight runs on eight hits and committed six errors before Steve Pino came in to relieve who saw five runs on five hits. Tim Bailey and Geoff McCowat also touched the mound for the Yellow Jackets.
The Setters will host the Adelphi University Panthers for another division game on Tuesday, April 16 at 3:30 pm.
