BRIARCLIFF, N.Y.-  The Pace softball team dropped a doubleheader to the Chargers of the University of New Haven, falling in game one 3-2 and losing in the nightcap 13-1. The Setters fall to 10-13 overall and 2-7 in the NE-10 Southwest Division, while the Chargers improve to 22-7 and 5-2 in division play.
In the opener, the Chargers got on the board with a run in the second for an early 1-0 lead. The Setters rallied in the third as Hana Wright (Hillsboro, OR/Valley Catholic) (Hillsboro, OR/Valley Catholic) tied the game with an RBI groundout. Katie Lange (Upland, CA/St. Lucy's Priory) (Upland, CA/St. Lucy's Priory) put the Setters in the lead with a run scoring single. New Haven scored the go-ahead run in the sixth and kept Pace off the board in the seventh to take game one 3-2.
On the mound, Chelsea Shea (Babylon, NY/West Babylon) (Babylon, NY/West Babylon) got the start, tossing a complete game, allowing three runs on eight hits and struck out four as she falls to 5-6 on the season. Samantha Garcia (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Rancho Cucamonga) (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Rancho Cucamonga) went 2-for-2 for Pace in the opener.
In the nightcap, the Setters were limited to five hits as New Haven scored seven runs in the opening inning and added six in the third inning. Pace rallied in the fifth inning as they loaded the bases and scored their first run of the game as Wright drew a walk to force in a run.
On the mound, Kelly Fisher (Castle Rock, CO/Douglas County) (Castle Rock, CO/Douglas County) starting, tossing one inning, allowing seven runs on nine hits to fall to 4-5 on the season. Jeane Drury (Flanders, NJ/Morris Catholic) tossed the final three innings, allowing six runs on seven hits and struck out two.
The Setters hit the road this weekend as they travel to Springfield, MA for an NE-10 three game series against American International. The teams will play one game on Friday, April 12 at 2:30 pm and play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 13 starting at noon.
