Softball Splits American International in NE-10 Division Play

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- The Pace softball team split a doubleheader against the Yellow Jackets of American International College in Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division action. The Setters took the opener 4-2 but fell in the nightcap 3-1. The Setters move to 11-14 on the season and 3-8 in the division, while the Yellow Jackets stand at 9-18 and 3-8 in division play.

In the opener, Samantha Garcia (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Rancho Cucamonga) (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Rancho Cucamonga) came up with three RBI's on singles in the second and fourth to pull the Setters even at 2-2. Garcia drove in the go-ahead run in the sixth with a ground-out, while Natalie Gellos (Seattle, WA/Holy Names Academy) (Seattle, WA/Holy Names Academy) gave Pace an insurance run with an RBI single.

On the mound, Chelsea Shea (Babylon, NY/West Babylon) (Babylon, NY/West Babylon) got the start, tossing a complete game, allowing two runs on seven hits and struck out six to even her record to 6-6 on the season.

In the nightcap, the Setters loaded the bases in the first inning as Jeane Drury (Flanders, NJ/Morris Catholic High School) (Flanders, NJ/Morris Catholic), Rachael McMahon (Corona, CA/Esperanza) (Corona, CA/Esperanza) singled and Hana Wright (Hillsboro, OR/Valley Catholic) (Hillsboro, OR/Valley Catholic) walked. Katie Lange (Upland, CA/St. Lucy's Priory) (Upland, CA/St. Lucy's Priory) was hit by a pitch to score Pace's lone run of the second game. American International scored three in their half of the inning as the Setters managed only one more hit in the game as McMahon singled in the second inning.

On the mound, Kelly Fisher (Castle Rock, CO/Douglas County) starting and pitched a complete game, allowing three runs on six hits, while striking out one to fall to 4-6 on the season.  

The Setters travel to Southern Connecticut State University on Tuesday, April 16 for an NE-10 Southwest Division single game at 4 pm.
