Baseball Completes Weekend Sweep over Saint Rose; Takes Doubleheader from Golden Knights

ALBANY, N.Y.- The Setters completed a three-game weekend sweep over the Golden Knights of Saint Rose, taking game one 5-2 and completing the twin bill sweep with a 6-4 in the nightcap. Pace improves to 14-7 on the season and 3-1 in the Northeast-10 Southwest Division, while the Golden Knights drop to 3-23 and 0-3 in division play.

Saint Rose jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a run in the second but Pace answered in the third. Michael Viegas (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) tied the score at one with a run scoring single. The Golden Knights retook the lead in the fifth with a run to go up 2-1.

Pace rallied back in the final two innings as Brandon Martineson (Prospect, KY/Warwick (NY)) (Prospect, KY/Warwick) tied the game at two with an RBI single. In the ninth, Chris Gili (Manorville, NY/Eastport-South Manor) (Manorville, NY/Eastport-South Manor) singled in the go-ahead run with a single, while Viegas added two more runs with a single as Pace took the opener.

Jonathan Chudy (Goshen, NY/Goshen) (Goshen, NY/Goshen) got the start, going seven innings, allowing two runs on six hits, while striking out three. Josh Garran (Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley Regional) (Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley Regional) came on in relief for the final two scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out two to improve to 3-0 on the season.

In the nightcap, the Setters again trailed early as Saint Rose scored a run in the second inning. The Setters rallied in the later innings, scoring three runs in the sixth and seventh.  James Pjura (Shelton, CT/Shelton) (Shelton, CT/Shelton) put the Setters up 3-2 with a two-run double, while Joe Solomeno (Holbrook , NY/Sachem East) (Holbrook, NY/Sachem East) had a sacrifice fly to give Pace a 4-2 lead. Saint Rose got one back in the sixth but Charlie Galasso (West Harrison, NY/Harrison) (West Harrison, NY/Harrison) drove in a run in the seventh with a single. Martineson added another run in the inning, while Pjura capped the rally with a sacrifice fly to stake Pace with a 6-2 lead. The Golden Knights scored one in the eighth and one in the ninth but ultimately the Setters prevailed, completing the sweep.

In game two, Gili went 2-for-3, scoring twice, while Galasso went 3-for-5. On the hill, Michael Tamburino (Baldwin, NY/Holy Trinity) (Baldwin, NY/Holy Trinity) tossed six innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out two to even his record at 1-1. Dylan Mouzakes (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills) (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills) allowing one run on one hit in one-plus innings, while Eddie Byrne (Yonkers, NY/Archbishop Stepinac) earned his third save of the season, allowing one run on one hit, striking out one.

The Setters travel to Garden City, NY for an NE-10 Southwest Division match-up against the Adelphi University Panthers on Tuesday, April 2 at 3:30 pm.
