PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- The Pace baseball team picked up their sixth straight win as they defeated the Clippers of Concordia College 9-2 in non-conference action. The Setters improve to 6-3 on the season, while the Clippers drop to 4-6 overall.
Concordia got on the board in the second inning as they took a 2-0 on a two-run homerun. The Setters answered in the bottom of the inning as Michael Viegas (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) had a two-run double to tie the game at 2-2. Pace took the lead later in the inning Jon Kovel (Schenectady, NY/Scotia Glenville) (Schenectady, NY/Scotia Glenville) drove in two more runs with two outs for a 4-2 Setters advantage.
The Setters tacked on a run in the third as James Pjura (Shelton, CT/Shelton) (Shelton, CT/Shelton) tripled with one out and scored on a sacrifice fly by Danny Wynne (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ/Hasbrouck Heights) (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ/Hasbrouck Heights). Pace added some insurance runs in the seventh as they scored four times in the frame. Pjura came up with a key hit in the inning, driving in a pair of runs with a single.
On the hill, Josh Garran (Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley Regional) (Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley Regional) picked up the win, as he tossed five innings, allowing two runs on two hits and struck out five. Ryan Mihalkovitz (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) pitched three scoreless innings, giving up one hits, while Mike Sweeney (Wayne, NJ/DePaul Catholic) recorded the final three outs, allowing two hits and struck out two.
The Setters head to Florida for the weekend as they will open up four games in the Sunshine State on Friday, March 15 against Bentley at 6 pm. All games this weekend will be played on the campus of Rollins College.
