Baseball Extends Win Streak to Seven; Rally Past Bentley in Ninth Inning

WINTER PARK, Fla.- The Setters rallied with six runs in the ninth inning as the baseball team saw their win streak hit seven games as they defeated Bentley 8-5. Pace improves to 7-3 overall, while Bentley falls to 6-8.

The teams traded run over the first eight innings as Pace jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Bentley rallied to tie the score in the second as Pace retook the lead with a run in the fourth. The Falcons rallied to pull even at 2-2 with a run in the sixth to set up a wild finish in the final inning.

In the ninth, Jon Kovel (Schenectady, NY/Scotia Glenville) (Schenectady, NY/Scotia Glenville) drove in a pair of runs with a triple, while Bobby Horn (Stamford, CT/Westhill) (Stamford, CT/Westhill) added an RBI single. The Setters were not finished in the inning as Chris Gili (Manorville, NY/Eastport-South Manor) (Manorville, NY/Eastport-South Manor) drove in two more runs with a single, while Brandon Martineson (Prospect, KY/Warwick (NY)) (Prospect, KY/Warwick) capped the six run explosion with a run scoring single.

Bentley rallied in their final at-bat as they score three times but fell short as Eddie Byrne (Yonkers, NY/Archbishop Stepinac) (Yonkers, NY/Archbishop Stepanic) faced one batter and recorded the final out to earn his second save of the season.

Martineson and Joe Solomeno (Holbrook , NY/Sachem East) (Holbrook, NY/Sachem East) both went 2-for-5 in the game and each scored a run, while James Pjura (Shelton, CT/Shelton) (Shelton, CT/Shelton), Gili and Kovel each had two RBI's. On the mound, Neil Pezzullo (Harwich, MA/Harwich) (Harwich, MA/Harwich) got the start, tossing six innings, allowing two runs on four hits and struck out three. Dylan Mouzakes (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills) (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills) picked up his first win on the season as he went two innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit and struck out two. Mike Jeannetti (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) pitched 2/3 of an inning, allowing one unearned run on one hit and struck out one.

The Setters will play a pair of games on Saturday, March 16 as they will take on Bentley at 11 am and will face Stonehill at 2:30 pm. Both games will take place on the campus of Rollins College.
