Setters Rally Past Dominican 5-1; Win Fifth in a Row

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- James Pjura (Shelton, CT/Shelton) (Shelton, CT/Shelton) drove in the go-ahead runs with a two-run double in the eighth inning as the Pace baseball team rallied past the Chargers of Dominican College 5-1 in non-conference action. The Setters won their fifth win in a row to improve to 5-3 on the season, while Dominican falls to 1-5.

The Chargers struck first in the second inning as they scored their lone run of the game. Pace answered in the fifth as Ian Wukitsch (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) led off with single. Two batters later, Bobby Horn (Stamford, CT/Westhill) (Stamford, CT/Westhill) tied the game at one with a double to score Wukitsch.

The Setters broke the game open in the eighth inning as pinch hitter David Pepe (Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) (Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) singled to start the inning. Pepe advanced to third on a sacrifice and a groundout, while Brandon Martineson (Prospect, KY/Warwick (NY)) (Prospect, KY/Warwick) drew a two-out walk. Pjura came through with the key hit of the game as he doubled to left field to score both runners to give Pace a 3-1 lead. The Setters got a pair of insurance runs later in the inning as Jon Kovel (Schenectady, NY/Scotia Glenville) (Schenectady, NY/Scotia Glenville) had a two-run single to put the Setters up 5-1.

Pace used five pitchers in the game as Tim Deegan (Levittown, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) (Levittown, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) tossed a scoreless eighth inning to pick up his first win of the season. Eddie Byrne (Yonkers, NY/Archbishop Stepanic) retired all three batters in the ninth to give the Setters their fifth win in a row.
