PLEASANTVILLE, NY- Cameron Davis (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL/Providence) (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL/Providence) caught a pair of touchdowns but the Pace Football team fell to the Falcons of Bentley University 56-13 in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Setters fall to 0-6 overall and 0-5 in the NE-10, while the Falcons improve to 4-2 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
The Falcons got on the board on their first possession as quarterback Dan Guadagnoli hit Jeff Hill for a touchdown and an early 7-0 Bentley lead. The Setters answered on their ensuing possession as quarterback Antwan Washington (Belle Glade, FL/Glades Central) (Belle Glade, FL/Glades Central) led the Pace offense down the field. The Pace offense faced an early 3rd-and-15 play from their own 30-yard line but Washington connected with Davis for 28 yards, putting the Setter offense in prime position in Bentley territory. Later in the drive, Washington hit Matt Tarpley (Plymouth, MN/Wayzata/Univ. of Mississippi) (Plymouth, MN/Wayzata/Univ. of Mississippi) for a 12 yard first down connection, setting up the Pace offense at the Falcons' 28-yard line. Two plays later, the Setters evened the score at seven as Washington again hooked up with Davis for a 28-yard touchdown strike at the 10:30 mark of the opening quarter.
Bentley added two touchdown runs and Guadagnoli threw for his second touchdown in the half as the Falcons led 28-7 at the break. Guadagnoli tossed two second half touchdowns, while the Falcons added a pair of TD's on the ground in the fourth quarter.
The Setters added to their point total late in the contest as the Pace defense came up with a fumble recovery deep in Bentley territory. As time expired, Brian Beeker (Spring Hill, FL/Springstead) (Spring Hill, FL/Springstead) connected with Davis for his second receiving touchdown of the day.
For the Setters, Washington completed 25-of-48 passes for 275 yards and one touchdown. Davis was the top receiver on the afternoon, catching nine passes for 128 yards and two scores. Tarpley also had a solid day in the receiving category, finishing with eight receptions for 89 yards. On defense, Tyler Owens (Salem, NJ/Salem) (Salem, NJ/Salem) totaled six tackles, including 1.5 for losses, while Joe Camilleri (Saddle Brook, NJ/Saddle Brook) (Saddle Brook, NJ / Saddle Brook) added five tackles (four solo).
Saturday's game featured Take-A-Kid to A Game Day as the Ossining Little League Football team played at halftime. It was also the first installment of the "Pace Goes Pink" campaign as members of the Pace Student Athlete Advisory Committee were on hand selling "Pace Goes Pink" t-shirts for $5 with the proceeds going towards Northern Westchester Hospital's Breast Institute.
The Setters are on the road next Saturday, October 19 as they head to Brookville, NY for an NE-10 clash against LIU Post with kick-off scheduled for 1 pm.
