BROOKVILLE, N.Y.- The Setters split a pair of matches on the first day of the LIU Post Tournament as they defeated Molloy 3-1 (25-15, 25-18, 19-25, 25-22) but fell to host LIU Post 3-1 (24-26, 25-20, 18-25, 23-25). Pace moves their record to 5-7 on the season.
In the opening match victory over Molloy, Nora Rugova (Mt. Kisco, NY/Fox Lane) (Mt. Kisco, NY/Fox Lane) posted a double-double with 15 kills and 12 digs. Brooke Speyerer (Winter Haven, FL/Lake Region) (Winter Haven, FL/Lake Region) also finished with a double-double as she totaled 40 assists and 15 digs. Freshman Megan Kurz (San Diego, Calif./Patrick Henry) (San Diego, CA/Patrick Henry) contributed 12 kills and a team-high 16 digs, while Elyse Rowland (Antioch, CA/Deer Valley) (Antioch, CA/Deer Valley) netted 15 digs along with four aces.
In the second match against LIU Post, Sara Atai (Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) (Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) led the Setters with 12 kills, six assists, seven digs, two aces and three total blocks. Rugova finished with nine kills, two aces and eight digs, while Rowland led the team with 20 digs. Speyerer added 28 assists and 12 digs. Tamilee Webb (Hartsdale, NY/Ardsley) (Hartsdale, NY/Ardsley) recorded six kills and four total blocks, while Gabrielle Harris (Wilmington, DE/Wilmington Friends) posted five blocks.
The Setters wrap up play at the LIU Post Tournament as they will take on Caldwell College at 2 pm.
