WALTHAM, Mass.- The Pace University football team dropped their season opener 42-0 to the Falcons of Bentley University. The Setters open their season at 0-1 and 0-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Falcons improve to 1-0 and 1-0 in conference play.
A tight opening first quarter as Bentley got on the board with a Bill Kiley nine-yard touchdown reception. The Falcons added three scores in the second quarter as Bobby Tarr has a short touchdown run, while Luke Zahradka tossed a pair of touchdown passes to give Bentley a 28-0 at halftime. Bentley added a touchdown in each of the final two quarters to account for the final score.
For the Setters, Jordan Raynor (Browns Mills, NJ/Pemberton) (Browns Mills, NJ/Pemberton) has a solid day passing as he completed 21-of-37 passes for 204 yards, including a 42-yard connected to newcomer Matt Tarpley (Caruthersville, MO/Wayzata/Univ. of Mississippi) (Caruthersville, MO / Wayzata/Univ. of Mississippi). Tarpley was the Raynor's top target of the night as he caught seven passes for 92 yards. Senior Patrick Lupfer (Mineola, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) (Mineola, NY/Kellenberg) also had a solid game with six receptions for 43 yards. On defense, the seniors led the way as Vincent Romano (Davenport, NY/Oneonta) (Davenport, NY / Oneonta) led the defense with 11 tackles, including one for a loss, while David Lopez (Ozone Park, NY/Christ the King) totaled 10 tackles on the night.
The Setters return to action on Saturday, September 8 when they will travel to Stony Brook, NY to take on Division I FCS Stony Brook University at 6 pm.
