RINDGE, N.H.- The Setters dropped a doubleheader to the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Ravens took game one 10-1 and won the second game 11-2. The Setters fall to 16-13 overall and 7-6 in the NE-10, while the Ravens improve to 21-10-1 and 6-2-1 in conference play.
Franklin Pierce built an early lead with a run in the third and two in the fourth. Pace got their run in the fifth as Patrick Chaputian (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore) (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore) singled and Joe Lombardi (Briarcliff, NY/Briarcliff) (Briarcliff, NY/Briarcliff) walked to put runners at first and second. The runners advanced a base on a sac bunt and Chaputian scored on an RBI ground out by Charlie Galasso (West Harrison, NY/Harrison) (West Harrison, NY/Harrison). The Ravens pulled away with runs in the fifth and sixth, while scoring five times in the seventh.
For Pace, Brian Sundberg (Westbury, NY/WT Clarke) (Westbury, NY/WT Clarke) got the start, going four innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, while striking out two to fall to 3-3 on the season. Tom McIntosh (Stamford, CT/Stamford) (Stamford, CT/Stamford) went two innings allowing six runs on six hits and struck out one. Jonathan Chudy (Goshen, NY/Goshen) (Goshen, NY/Goshen) tossed two innings and struck out two.
In the nightcap, the Ravens got two runs in the opening inning for a 2-0 lead. The Setters rallied to tie the game in the fourth inning. Kyle Turnier (Waterford, CT/Waterford) (Waterford, CT/Waterford) led off with a walk, while Joe Solomeno (Holbrook , NY/Sachem East) (Holbrook, NY/Sachem East) reached on a fielder's choice. James Pjura (Shelton, CT/Shelton) (Shelton, CT/Shelton) doubled in Turnier, while Galasso recorded his second RBI of the day with a groundout to score Solomeno. The Ravens retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth with a pair of runs and scored in last five innings to take game two 11-2.
For Pace, Eddie Byrne (Yonkers, NY/Archbishop Stepinac) (Yonkers, NY/Archbishop Stepanic) pitched five innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on eight hits, while striking out four. Robert Perez (Bronx, NY/Trinity Pawling) (Bronx, NY/Trinity Pawling) tossed an inning, allowing two runs on two hits, while Patrick Maher (Yaphank, NY/Longwood) also pitched one inning, allowing a run on one hit. Chris Gili (Waccabuc, NY/East-South Manor) pitched the final inning, allowing two runs on four hits.
The Setters return to action on Wednesday, April 11 when they will travel to Adelphi University for an NE-10 Southwest Division game at 3:30 pm.
