GARDEN CITY, N.Y.- The Setters came up short to the Panthers of Adelphi 9-6 in Northeast-10 Southwest Division action. Pace falls to 16-14 overall, 7-7 in the NE-10 and 5-1 in the division, while the Panthers improve to 13-15, 4-10 and 3-3 in the Southwest.
Adelphi took an early lead with a run in the fourth inning but the Setters rallied for five runs over the next two innings. Pace scored three runs in the fifth as Kyle Turnier (Waterford, CT/Waterford) (Waterford, CT/Waterford) had an RBI single, while Joe Lombardi (Briarcliff, NY/Briarcliff) (Briarcliff, NY/Briarcliff) put the Setters up 3-1 with a two-run double. Pace added two more in the sixth as Chris Gili (Waccabuc, NY/Eastport-South Manor) (Waccabuc, NY/Eastport-South Manor) and Chris Roemer (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley) (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley) both posted RBI's in the inning to give the Setters a 5-1 lead.
The Panthers rallied in the sixth inning with four runs as they tied the score at five. The Setters took back the lead in the seventh as Tyler Collins (Stamford, CT/Trinity Catholic) (Stamford, CT/Trinity Catholic) walked and stole second. Joe Solomeno (Holbrook , NY/Sachem East) (Holbrook, NY/Sachem East) drove in Collins with a single to put the Setters back in the lead at 6-5. Adelphi rallied in the bottom of the eighth as they scored four runs in the inning to go ahead 9-6.
Turnier went 2-for-4 for the Setters, while Lombardi recorded a pair of RBI's. On the hill, Jonathan Hornung (Calverton, NY/Riverhead) (Calverton, NY/Riverhead) got the start, going 5 2/3 innings, allowing five runs (two earned) on hits, while striking out one. Eddie Byrne (Yonkers, NY/Archbishop Stepinac) (Yonkers, NY/Archbishop Stepanic) tossing two innings, allowing three runs to fall to 2-3 on the season. Neil Pezzullo (Harwich, MA/Harwich) (Harwich, MA/Harwich) and Jonathan Chudy (Goshen, NY/Goshen) both pitched in the final inning as Pezzullo allowed one run.
The Setters return to action on Thursday, April 12 when they will host Queens College in non-conference action at 3 pm at Pace's Finnerty Field.
