SYRACUSE, N.Y.- Neil Pezzullo (Harwich, MA/Harwich) (Harwich, MA/Harwich) tossed a complete game four-hit shutout with eight strikeouts to lead the Setters past the Dolphins of Le Moyne College 5-0 in Northeast-10 Southwest Division action. The Setters improve to 25-16 overall, 15-8 in the NE-10 and lead the division by three games with a 13-2 record. The Dolphins fall to 30-11-1, 15-7-1 and 10-5 in division play.
The Setters are ranked #7 in the first NCAA Division II East Region poll, while the Dolphins are ranked second in the region.
The Setters got on the board in the third as they took advantage of several Dolphin miscues to push across a pair of runs in the inning. Pace scored runs on back-to-back strikeout, wild pitches along with an error on the second play to bring home two runs for a 2-0 lead.
The Setters added three runs in the seventh as Joe Lombardi (Briarcliff, NY/Briarcliff) (Briarcliff, NY/Briarcliff) drove in two runs with a single, while James Pjura (Shelton, CT/Shelton) added an RBI single to put Pace up 5-0. Pezzullo (6-1) took it the rest of the rest as he scattered four hits in a complete game shutout effort. Pjura went 3-for-5 for the Setters in the game
The Setters and Dolphins will wrap up their three-game series on Sunday, April 29 when the teams will play a doubleheader at Le Moyne starting at noon.
