PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- The Setters rapped out 19 hits, while hitting a pair of solo homeruns as Pace coasted to a 15-2 victory over the Panthers of Adelphi University in Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division action. Pace improves 21-14 overall, 11-7 in the NE-10 and remain in first place in the Southwest with a 9-1 record. The Panthers drop to 15-17, 6-12 and 5-5 in division play.
Adelphi got on the board in the opening inning with a run but the Setters broke the game open with three runs in the first and four in the third. Joe Lombardi (Briarcliff, NY/Briarcliff) (Briarcliff, NY/Briarcliff) had an RBI single in the opening inning, while James Pjura (Shelton, CT/Shelton) (Shelton, CT/Shelton) put the Setters in the lead with a two-run single. In the third, Lombardi drove in a run on a sac fly a part of a four-run inning. Pjura blasted a solo homerun in the fifth, while Lombardi hit a solo blast in the sixth as the Setters pulled away from the Panthers.
For Pace, Lombardi went 2-for-3 with three RBI's and two runs scored, while Pjura went 2-for-4 with three RBI's. For the Setters, Jonathan Hornung (Calverton, NY/Riverhead) posted a complete game effort as he allowed two runs on seven hits while striking out three to improve to 2-3 on the season.
The Setters return to action on Wednesday, April 18 when they will host Bloomfield College in a non-conference matchup at 3 pm at Finnerty Field.
