Softball Continues Strong Start to the Season; Sweep Felician

LYNDHURST, N.J.- Pace swept a non-conference doubleheader from the Felician College Golden Falcons with the Setters winning 3-0 in the opener and 3-2 in the nightcap. The Setters improve to 16-4 on the season, while Felician falls to 2-24 overall.

The Setters took the opener as they scored their runs in the final two innings. Jeane Drury (Flanders, NJ/Morris Catholic High School) (Flanders, NJ/Morris Catholic) singled in the sixth and moved to second on a sac bun. Drury eventually came around to score on a single by Sabrina Gonzalez (Oxnard, CA/Ventura College) (Oxnard, CA/Ventura College). In the seventh, Hana Wright (Hillsboro, OR/Valley Catholic) (Hillsboro, OR/Valley Catholic) doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a two run homerun by Rachael McMahon (Corona, CA/Esperanza) (Corona, CA/Esperanza). Caitlin McCann (San Mateo, CA/Notre Dame) (San Mateo, CA/Notre Dame) was outstanding on the mound as she tossed a complete game two-hitter and struck out two to improve to 4-2 on the season.

In the nightcap, the Setters took the lead in the second as Drury blasted a solo homerun. Felician tied the game in the bottom of the inning. Pace answered in the third as Nicole Schultheis (Plainview, NY/Bethpage) (Plainview, NY/Bethpage) reached on an error. Natalie Gellos (Seattle, WA/Holy Names Academy) (Seattle, WA/Holy Names Academy) doubled to score Schultheis for a 2-1 Pace lead. Wright extended the Pace lead to 3-1 as she tripled to score Gellos. Felician rallied in the ninth as they scored a run but Pace starter Kayla Hill (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) closed the door on a Golden Falcons comeback as they left the bases loaded to end the game. Hill (4-0) tossed a complete game, allowing two runs on eight hits to remain unbeaten on the season.

The Setters are back in action on Wednesday March 28 when Pace will host Le Moyne College in a Northeast-10 Conference two bill on the Briarcliff campus at 3 pm.
