BRIARCLIFF, N.Y.- Lauren Bell (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free) blasted her second grand slam of the season to give the Setters a 5-2 win in game one as Pace split a twin bill against Le Moyne College in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Setters are now 17-5 overall and 5-3 in the NE-10, while the Dolphins are now 7-19 overall and 3-5 in conference play.
Le Moyne took an early lead as they pushed across a run in the opening inning. In the bottom of the first, Sabrina Gonzalez (Oxnard, CA/Ventura College) (Oxnard, CA/Ventura College) doubled and eventually tied the game at one on a Dolphin error. Le Moyne took the lead in the third on a solo homerun but the Setters rallied in the fifth inning. Pace loaded the bases Jeane Drury (Flanders, NJ/Morris Catholic High School) (Flanders, NJ/Morris Catholic) walked, Gonzalez doubled and Nicole Schultheis (Plainview, NY/Bethpage) (Plainview, NY/Bethpage) reached on an infield hit. Bell got the game-decisive hit as she blasted a homerun to center field for a 5-2 Setter lead.
For Pace, Gonzalez was a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs scored, while Bell had four RBI's. Chelsea Shea (Babylon, NY/West Babylon) (Babylon, NY/West Babylon) started and went three innings, allowing two runs on five hits, while striking out two. Caitlin McCann (San Mateo, CA/Notre Dame) (San Mateo, CA/Notre Dame) came on in relief, tossing the final four innings, allowing two hits and struck out three to improve to 5-2 on the season.
In the nightcap, the Setters were limited to two hits in the game, while Le Moyne scored a run in the third on a pair of Setter miscues. The Dolphins added an insurance run in the sixth for the final margin. Kelly Fisher (Castle Rock, CO/Douglas County) took the loss as she tossed 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits to fall to 2-2 on the season. McCann closed out the final 1 1/3 innings as she struck out one.
The Setters are back in action on Saturday, March 31 when Pace will host Stonehill College in a Northeast-10 Conference twin bill on the Briarcliff campus at 12 pm.
