WEST HAVEN, Conn.- The Setters split a doubleheader against the University of New Haven in Northeast-10 Conference action. Pace took the opener 5-4, while the Chargers won the nightcap 5-0. Pace moves to 14-4 overall and 4-2 in the NE-10, while the Chargers stand at 9-9 and 2-4 in conference play.
In the opener, the Setters struck first in the opening inning as Lauren Bell (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free) and Hana Wright (Hillsboro, OR/Valley Catholic) (Hillsboro, OR/Valley Catholic) singled with two outs. Natalie Gellos (Seattle, WA/Holy Names Academy) (Seattle, WA/Holy Names Academy) doubled in both runners to give Pace a 2-0 lead. The Chargers answered in the bottom of the inning to tie the score at two.
Pace took the lead in the fourth with a run but New Haven hit two solo homeruns in the bottom of the inning to take a 4-3 lead. The Setters rallied with a run in the fifth tie the score and took the lead in the sixth. Lana Buchbinder (San Francisco, CA/George Washington) (San Francisco, CA/George Washington) walked and moved to second on a sac bunt. Jeane Drury (Flanders, NJ/Morris Catholic High School) (Flanders, NJ/Morris Catholic) doubled in Buchbinder for the go-ahead run.
On the mound, Chelsea Shea (Babylon, NY/West Babylon) (Babylon, NY/West Babylon) tossed four innings, allowing four runs on four hits and struck out four. Colby Hochmuth (Delanson, NY/Duanesburg) (Delanson, NY/Duanesburg) came on in relief as she went one inning, allowing one hit. Kayla Hill (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison High School) (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) came on for the final two innings as she struck out two.
In the nightcap, the Setters were limited to one hit on a Bell single in the third inning. Kelly Fisher (Castle Rock, CO/Douglas County) tossed a complete game as she allowed five runs on eight hits, while striking out four.
The Setters return to action on Tuesday, March 27 when they will travel to Lodi, NJ for a non-conference doubleheader against Felician College at 5 pm.
