Setters Rally In Extra Innings Win Over Nyack

POMONA, N.Y.- The Setters rallied with five runs in the tenth inning as Pace defeated the Nyack College Warriors 7-4 in non-conference action. Pace improves their record to 8-7, while the Warriors fall to 9-7 on the season.

Pace took the lead in the opening inning as Chris Roemer (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley) (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley) singled, stole second and eventually scored on a single by Patrick Chaputian (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore) (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore). The Setters added to their lead in the third as Kyle Turnier (Waterford, CT/Waterford) (Waterford, CT/Waterford) doubled with two outs, moved to third on a balk and scored on a base hit by James Pjura (Shelton, CT/Shelton) (Shelton, CT/Shelton). Nyack answered with a run in the third and a run in the fifth to tie the game at two.

The teams headed into extra innings as the Setters' bats came alive in the top of the tenth. Chaputian and Pjura both had RBI singles with the big hit coming from Ian Wukitsch (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) (Morristown, NJ/Morristown), who drove in two runs with a single. Joe Solomeno (Holbrook , NY/Sachem East) (Holbrook, NY/Sachem East) also drove in a run with a single to cap the scoring in the inning. The Warriors answered in the bottom of the inning with a pair of runs but fell short of a comeback.

For the Setters, Roemer scored twice, while Chaputian went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI's. Turnier went 2-for-5 with two runs scored, while Pjura went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI's. On the mound, Michael Tamburino (Baldwin, NY/Holy Trinity) (Baldwin, NY/Holy Trinity) tossed seven innings, allowing two runs on eight hits, while striking out four. Brian Sundberg (Westbury, NY/WT Clarke) went the final three innings, allowing two runs on five hits, while fanning two to improve to 2-1 on the season.

The Setters return to action on Saturday, March 24 when Pace will host Stonehill College for a doubleheader starting at 12 pm at Pace's Finnerty Field.
