Baseball Falls On Late Bridgeport Rally

BRIDGEPORT, Conn.- The Setters came up short to the Purple Knights of Bridgeport 8-7 in non-conference action. Pace fall to 7-7 overall, while Bridgeport improves to 2-5 on the season.

Bridgeport took an early lead as they scored two runs in the third inning. The Setters cut into the lead in the fourth as Alexander Rough (Stamford, CT/Westhill) (Stamford, CT/Westhill) hit a sacrifice fly. Pace took advantage of a couple of Bridgeport miscues in the fifth as Chris Gili (Waccabuc, NY/Eastport-South Manor) (Waccabuc, NY/Eastport-South Manor) and Kyle Turnier (Waterford, CT/Waterford) (Waterford, CT/Waterford) scored on wild pitches. Joe Lombardi's (Briarcliff, NY/Briarcliff) (Briarcliff, NY/Briarcliff) single drove in Martineson, who drew a walk, as the Setters took a 4-2 lead.

The Setters added a run in the sixth on a Turnier RBI single, while Pace went on to tack on a pair of runs in the seventh as Pace took a 7-2 lead. Bridgeport rallied in the ninth inning as they scored six runs with the final run coming on a sacrifice fly as the Purple Knights came back to take the win in the final inning.

For Pace, Martineson went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. On the hill, Jonathan Hornung (Calverton, NY/Riverhead) (Calverton, NY/Riverhead) started and went 4 2/3 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits, while fanning four. Neil Pezzullo (Harwich, MA/Harwich) (Harwich, MA/Harwich) tossed 3 1/3 innings, allowing only three hits and struck out three. Pace used four pitchers in the ninth inning as Jonathan Chudy (Goshen, NY/Goshen) was charged with the go-ahead run as he dropped his record to 0-1 on the season.

The Setters return to action on Thursday, March 22 when Pace will travel to Pomona, NY for a non-conference action against Nyack College at Provident Bank Park, home of the Rockland Boulders, at 3 pm.
