Setters Explode for Nine Runs in the Sixth En-Route to 10-4 Win over C.W. Post

WINTER PARK, Fla.-The Setters picked up their second win over C.W. Post on their Florida road trip as they exploded for nine runs in the sixth inning en-route to a 10-4 win over the Pioneers. Pace improves to 6-5 on the season, while the Pioneers fall to 6-7 overall.

Pace took an early lead with a run in the first inning, but the Pioneers rallied in the third inning to knot the score at one.

The Setters broke the game open in the sixth as Chris Roemer (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley) (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley) scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. Joe Lombardi (Briarcliff, NY/Briarcliff) (Briarcliff, NY/Briarcliff) drove in a pair of runs with a single, while later in the inning Bobby Horn (Stamford, CT/Westhill) (Stamford, CT/Westhill) drew a bases loaded walk to force in a run. Kyle Turnier (Waterford, CT/Waterford) (Waterford, CT/Waterford) had an RBI single, while James Pjura (Shelton, CT/Shelton) (Shelton, CT/Shelton) capped the rally with a sacrifice fly to score Roemer for his second run of the inning. C.W. Post rallied with three runs in the eighth but the Setters held on for their sixth win of the season.

For Pace, Roemer went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI, while Pjura was 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI. On the mound, Jonathan Chudy (Goshen, NY/Goshen) (Goshen, NY/Goshen) tossed three innings, allowing one run on three hits, while striking out three. Robert Perez (Bronx, NY/Trinity Pawling) (Bronx, NY/Trinity Pawling) pitched 1 2/3 shutout innings and gave up only two hits. Edward Byrne (Yonkers, NY/Archbishop Stepinac) tossed 3 1/3 innings, allowing three runs and three hits and struck out four as he evens his record to 1-1 on the season. Tom McIntosh (Stamford, CT/Stamford) came on for the final inning and retired all three batters he faced.  

Pace returns to action on Friday, March 16 when they will square off against Bentley University on the campus of Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla. at 11:00 am.
