GARDEN CITY, N.Y.- The Setters cruised to a 69-51 win over the Panthers of Adelphi University in Northeast-10 Conference action. Pace stands along in third place as they improve to 18-6 overall and 15-5 in the NE-10. The Panthers fall to 8-16 and 6-14 in conference play.
The teams battled over the first eight minutes as Adelphi's Kelly Mannix connected on a three-pointer to put the Panthers up 15-14 with 12:29 to play in the first half. The Setters took control of the game as they ripped off an 18-0 over an eight minute stretch, while closing the half on a 23-3 run to lead 37-18 at the break. Kerri White (Flushing, NY/Archbishop Molloy) (Flushing, NY/Archbishop Molloy/Manhattan College) hit a pair of triples to start the run, while Margo Hackett (Pawling, NY/Pawling) (Pawling, NY/Pawling) also connected on a trifecta in the run as the Setters pulled away to finish the half.
The Panthers pulled to within nine points at 43-34 with 13:51 left in the game. Pace rallied as they used a 13-0 burst to push the lead back into double-figures and cruised the rest of the way. Carol Johnson (New City, NY/Cardinal Spellman) (New City, NY/Cardinal Spellman) scored six points in the run, while Hackett added five points as the Setters won going away down the stretch.
For Pace, Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) led the Setters with 16 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals. Johnson finished with 12 points, four boards and five assists. White netted 11 points, while Hackett came off the bench to score 13 points.
The Setters return to action on Saturday, February 18 when Pace travels to Worcester, MA for a Northeast-10 Conference game against Assumption College at 1:30. Pace leads Assumption by a game in the NE-10 as the teams will play for third place.
