Williams Nets 25 Points in Season Opening Victory over Nyack

NYACK, N.Y. - The Pace Men's Basketball tipped off their 2012-13 season in style as senior Keon Williams (Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack/Iona College) (Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack/Iona College) tallied 25 points and nine to lead the Setters to a 77-54 win over the Warriors of Nyack College in non-conference action. The Setters open the season at 1-0, while the Warriors fall to 0-1.

The Setters led from start to finish in the contest as Kai Smith (Upper Marlboro, MD/St. Mary's Ryken) (Upper Marlboro, MD/St. Mary's Ryken) hit a three-pointer in the first minute of play to give Pace an early lead. The score stayed within 5-8 points for most of the half but the Warriors made a run late to close to within a point at 22-21 with just over six minutes to play in the half.

The Setters raced to halftime with a 17-1 run to close out the half as Williams Smith combined to score all 17 points in the run. Williams totaled eight points, while Smith hit a pair of trifectas and capped off the run with a three-point play with 51 seconds left in the first half as they led 39-23 at the break. Pace continued their dominance in the second half as they led by as many as 28 points midway through the second half to cruise to their third straight season-opening victory.  

For the Setters, Smith finished with 19 points, seven rebounds and four assists, while Denzel Primus-Devonish (Riverdale, MD/St. John's College) (Riverdale, MD/St. John's College) totaled 11 points, six assists and three rebounds, while Jonathan Merceus (Union, NJ/Union) chipped in 14 points

The Setters wrap up play in the Nyack College Tip-Off Classic as they will take on Bloomfield College on Saturday, November 10 at 4 pm at host Nyack College.
