Primus-Devonish Strikes Again; Nails Game-Winning Triple in Buzzer-Beating Win over Bloomfield

NYACK, N.Y.- For the second time in less than a calendar year, junior guard Denzel Primus-Devonish (Riverdale, MD/St. John's College) (Riverdale, MD/St. John's College) played hero again as he connected on a game-winning three pointer at the buzzer to lift the Setters to 60-59 come from behind win over Bloomfield College at the final day of the Nyack College Tournament. The Setters open their season at 2-0, while the Deacons fall to 0-2 on the season.

The teams battled through a back and forth start to the game as the Setters held a slim one point lead midway through the opening half. The Deacons pulled ahead late in the half as led 31-25 at halftime.

Bloomfield added to their lead into the second half as they led by as many as 12 points with 7:24 left in the game. The Setters sliced their deficit down to nine points at 57-48 with 2:53 remaining in the game. Pace tallied the next eight points as Jonathan Merceus (Union, NJ/Union) (Union, NJ/Union) went 3-for-4 from the line while Keon Williams (Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack/Iona College) added a basket. Primus-Devonish scored a pair of field goals, including the game-tying hoop with 10 seconds on the clock.

The Deacons took a 59-57 lead on a pair free throws with five seconds on the clock to set up the final play. As in last season's win over New Haven on February 4, Primus-Devonish took the inbounds pass with 5.4 seconds on the clock, drove down the left side of the court and launched a three-point attempt as time expired that was good to give the Setters a thrilling victory and a 2-0 start to the season.

For the Setters, Merceus led all scorers with 25 points along with five rebounds, while Primus-Devonish finished with 14 points, four rebounds and two assists. Williams tallied seven points, eight rebounds and four steals.

The Setters return to action on Wednesday, November 14 as they will host Le Moyne in their Northeast-10 Conference and home opener at 7:30 pm at the Goldstein Fitness Center.
