Setters Drop Heartbreaking Loss to New Haven, 1-0

BRIARCLIFF, N.Y.- The Setters fell to the Chargers of the University of New Haven, 1-0, in what turned out to be one of the more intense match-ups of the year.  The Setters fall to 5-7-3 overall and 5-6-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Chargers advance to 10-4-1 overall and 7-4-1 in the NE-10.

The Chargers out-shot Pace 4 to 1 in the first 45 minutes of play.  The lone goal of the game came at 30:14 from Monica Yanez.  It was a tough battle, back-and-forth to the half.  Courtany Hagen (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz) (New Paltz, NY / New Paltz) had two key saves.

Despite the loss, the Setters showed valiant effort and energy throughout the game, most notably in the second half.  The Setters out-shot the chargers in the second 8-4, to take the lead in total shots on the game with 9.  Jillian Ferro (Warwick, NY / Warwick Valley) finished with six shots for the Setters.

Natasha Purchla spent 90 minutes in the goal for the Chargers and totaled four saves on the game to bring her record to 6-3-1.  Hagen finished with five saves of 90 minutes in net. 

The Setters travel to Franklin Pierce Saturday, October 20 for a pivotal NE-10 match-up at 2 pm.
