Setters Stun Nationally Ranked #4 Bentley University Falcons 79-68

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- Carol Johnson (New City, NY/Cardinal Spellman) (New City, NY/Cardinal Spellman) led the Setters with a career-high 26 points as Pace upset #4 nationally ranked (USA Today/ESPN Top-25 coaches poll) Bentley University Falcons 79-68. The Setters advance to 10-3 overall and 7-2 in the Northeast-10 Conference while the Falcons drop their first conference game of the season as they fall to 12-2 overall and 8-1 in the NE-10. 

Both teams came out strong with the Falcons holding a slight lead over the Setters for a majority of the first half.  The Falcons largest lead came at the 9:51 mark at six points but the score remained in close until late in the first half.  Allison Cleary (New Windsor, NY/Cornwall Central) (New Windsor, NY/Cornwall Central) hit a big triple with 2:17 left on the clock which was followed by a lay-up and jumper by Johnson on back to back possessions to take the lead 35-33. The Setters headed into the locker room with a four point lead at 39-35. 

Pace came out strong to start the second half using a 16-5 run to start the half as Cleary hit an early triple, while Johnson converted a three-point play in the run. The rally was capped by back to back triples by Margo Hackett (Pawling, NY/Pawling) (Pawling, NY/Pawling) and Kerri White (Flushing, NY/Archbishop Molloy) (Flushing, NY/Archibishop Molloy/Manhattan College) as the Setters pulled ahead by 15 points at 55-40 with 14 minutes left in the game. The Falcons pulled to within seven points with just over seven minutes to play The Setters saw success at the free throw line over the final 3:35 as Cleary went 6-for-8 and Johnson hit 3-of-4 at the line as Pace would score to upset victory.

For Bentley, Lauren Battista led the Falcons with 24 points, five rebounds and two assists while Jacqui Brugliera was not far behind with 23 points, eight rebounds, and two assists. 

For the Setters, Johnson totaled 26 points, four assists and five rebounds on the day. White went 4-4 from three-point range and tallied 12 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.  Cleary finished with 16 points including three big trifectas while Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) contributed 13 points, four assists and nine rebounds. On the day, the Setters were 9-for-13 from the three-point stripe.
