PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.- Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) and Allison Clearly (New Windsor, NY/Cornwall Central) both put up 17 points as they led the Setters to their 11th win of the season over St. Anselm, 61-43. The Setters advance to 11-3 overall and 8-2 in the NE-10, while the St. Anselm Hawks drop to 9-7 overall and 3-7 in the conference.
Pace came out very strong to start the game and held the Hawks scoreless over the three minutes of play. The Setters played tough defense and continued to play well on offense as they built 23-4 lead with 8:41 left in the half. Pace took their largest lead of the game five minutes into the second half as they pulled ahead by 27 points on a layup from Maral Javadifar (Flushing, NY/The Mary Louis Academy) (Flushing, NY/Mary Louis Academy). The Hawks used a 12-0 run to pull within 15 points at 46-31 with 7:14 left in the game. Kerri White (Flushing, NY/Archbishop Molloy) (Flushing, NY/Archbishop Molloy) hit a three-point field goal to end the dry-spell and the Setters would push their lead to 23 points with just under five minutes to play. The Setters cruised the rest of the way and post their fourth straight win in the process.
Megan Howard led the Hawks with a double-double in 14 points and 11 rebounds. Curran Leighton scored ten points and seven rebounds while Briana Jones finished with eight points and four assists.
For Pace, Shields led on the boards for the Setters with eight to go along with her 17 points, while Cleary finished with 17 points, five assists and four rebounds. Javadifar and White both finished with nine points each, while Margo Hackett (Pawling, NY/Pawling) added five rebounds.
The Setters will travel to University of Massachusetts-Lowell to take on the River Hawks on Saturday, January 17 at 2:00 pm.
