Pleasantville, NY- The Pace women's basketball team won in their first round playoff matchup over the Hawks of Saint Anselm College by a score of 58-35. With the win, the Setters improve to 22-7 overall while the Hawks fall to 11-16 overall.
Pace and Saint Anselm got off to slow starts only scoring six points apiece in the first six minutes. The Setters would begin to pick things up however in the next few minutes in. Pace would lead by seven points at the midway point in the first period, 15-8. In the remaining 10 ten minutes of first half action Saint Anselm would pull within two points at 17-15. Fortunately for Pace, they would again pull away from the Hawks to go into the locker room at the half up eight points, 23-15.
The Setters would come out after the break on fire extending their lead to as much as 20 points with 10 minutes left in regulation. From that point on Saint Anselm would continue to fall behind by larger margins till the end of the half. Pace would lead by as much as 26 points, 58-32. The Setters finished on top 58-35.
Shinning for the Setters was senior forward Brittany Huggins (Windsor, CT/Windsor) (Windsor, CT/Windsor) with 13 points, two rebounds, and two assists. Kristin Connolly (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) would score 12 points and pull down three rebounds, while Maral Javadifar (Flushing, NY/The Mary Louis Academy) scored 10 points and totaled seven rebounds.
The Setters return to action Tuesday, March 1st when they matchup against the College of Saint Rose for the next round of the NE-10 Playoffs at 7:00 pm in Albany, NY.
