PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Setters came up short in a 57-52 loss to the Panthers of Adelphi University in Northeast-10 Conference action. Pace falls to 4-4 and 3-3 in the NE-10, while the Panthers improve to 6-1 and 5-1 in conference play.
Adelphi jumped out to an early lead but the Setters rallied to tie the score at eight. The Panthers used an 11-3 run to pull ahead 19-11. Pace would rally behind Delroy Daley (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond) (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond) and Denzel Primus-Devonish (Riverdale, MD/St. John's College) (Riverdale, MD/St. John's College), who combined to score Pace's final nine points of the half as the Setters would head to halftime trailing by six at 26-20.
The Panthers would keep the Setters just out of reach for most of the second half and eventually pulled ahead by 10 points at 43-33 with 7:55 left in the game. Pace would rally as they used a 14-4 run to pull even at the 2:50 mark of the second half. Keon Williams (Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack/Iona College) had a key three-point play in the run, while Primus-Devonish successfully converted a four-point play with pull the Setters to within one. On the free throw, Daley was fouled and hit 1-of-2 from the line to complete the run to even the score at 47.
Adelphi would connect on a three and would trade points with the Setters. Pace would trail by three in the final minute but had three shots from beyond the arc come up short of tying the game. The Panthers would convert free throws down the stretch as the Setters would fall short in the game.
For Pace, Primus-Devonish led all scorers with 22 points along with five rebounds and three assists. Daley finished with 10 points and eight boards, while Williams grabbed five rebounds.
The Setters return to action on Saturday, December 10 when Pace travels to Queens, NY for a non-conference game against Queens College at 3 pm.
